Ann holds a Master’s of Public Health degree from Columbia University. She spent the first twenty years of her professional career as a community organizer. Ann was formally introduced to the arts in 2012 while living in Hawaii. In 2017 she completed her Master’s degree in Expressive Arts Therapy (with a focus on peace building and conflict transformation) from the Expressive Arts Institute San Diego and European Graduate School in Saas Fee, Switzerland. It was here that Ann first experienced the healing and transformative capabilities of the arts. Ann is passionate about sharing these gifts with others.
Ann graduated from Arts for Learning Teaching Artist Institute in January 2015, after which she became one of their resident teaching artists. Ann is deeply committed to arts integration in our schools and believes wholeheartedly that art helps us to make sense of our world. The arts provide an opportunity for self-exploration and expression where one might not otherwise exist.
Ann considers herself a process-based visual artist. She is an abstract intuitive painter. Ask any of Ann’s students and they will tell you that in her classroom the most important rule is: MISTAKES WELCOME! The freedom to make mistakes and opportunity to reflect on and learn from them is the basis of intellectual growth. Ann strongly believes that we are all artists, and it is an honor for her to nurture the creativity that lives within each of her students. Ann aims to provide her students with opportunities to discover, to wonder, to play, to engage their senses, to be human to make mistakes, and to fuel their own imagination as they proclaim, “I AM AN ARTIST”!Learn more at www.mistakeswelcome.com.
